When a person, wishing for a certain outcome,applies themselves where they ought not;not achieving what they worked for,they say: “That’s a sign of my bad luck.”

“Ayoge yuñjamattānaṁ, puriso kiccamicchako; *kiccamicchako → kiccamicchato (bj, pts1ed); kiccamicchayaṁ (katthaci)Carañce nādhigaccheyya, ‘taṁ me dubbhagalakkhaṇaṁ’.

Just like a glorious flowerYathāpi ruciraṁ pupphaṁ, that’s colorful but lacks fragrance;vaṇṇavantaṁ agandhakaṁ; well-spoken speech is fruitlessEvaṁ subhāsitā vācā, for one who does not act on it.aphalā hoti akubbato.
