The Deity Dhamma’s Conduct

“Then again when I wasof great retinue and psychic power,a great spirit named DhammaDhamma1. Fenómeno; cualquier cosa que ocurre y es cognoscible. 2. Fenómeno mental, «pensamiento». 3. Principio, especialmente los principios de causalidad. 4. Doctrina, enseñanza. También, principios de comportamiento que los seres humanos deben seguir para armonizar con el orden natural correcto de las cosas; cualidades mentales que deben desarrollar para realizar la cualidad inherente de la mente en sí misma. Dhammavādī adhammo ca, ubho paccanikā mayaṁ; Dhure dhuraṁ ghaṭṭayantā, samimhā paṭipathe ubho.

A dreadful quarrel ensuedbetween the good and the ill,a great war loomedaiming to push the other off the road.*According to the Jātaka, the conflict took place in the sky (Ja 457).

Kalaho vattatī bhesmā, kalyāṇapāpakassa ca; Maggā okkamanatthāya, mahāyuddho upaṭṭhito.

If I had been upset with him,if I had broken my asceticism,I could have reduced him to dust,together with his companions.

Yadihaṁ tassa kuppeyyaṁ, yadi bhinde tapoguṇaṁ; Sahaparijanaṁ tassa, rajabhūtaṁ kareyyahaṁ.

Nevertheless, for the sake of guarding my ethics,I quelled my heart.I left the road with my folk,giving it to the wicked one.

Api cāhaṁ sīlarakkhāya, nibbāpetvāna mānasaṁ; Saha janenokkamitvā, pathaṁ pāpassa dāsahaṁ.

Saha pathato okkante, katvā cittassa nibbutiṁ; Vivaraṁ adāsi pathavī, pāpayakkhassa tāvade”ti.
