King Nimi’s Conduct

“Then again when I wasin the capital city of MithilāI was the great king named Nimi,astute and seeking the good.

“Punāparaṁ yadā homi, mithilāyaṁ puruttame; Nimi nāma mahārājā, paṇḍito kusalatthiko.

“Then again when I was“Punāparaṁ yadā homi, in the capital city of Mithilāmithilāyaṁ puruttame; I was the great king named Nimi,Nimi nāma mahārājā, astute and seeking the good.paṇḍito kusalatthiko.

Then having had constructedfour halls with four openings,I provided gifts therefor beasts, birds, men, and so forth.

Tadāhaṁ māpayitvāna, catussālaṁ catummukhaṁ; Tattha dānaṁ pavattesiṁ, migapakkhinarādinaṁ.

Then having had constructedTadāhaṁ māpayitvāna, four halls with four openings,catussālaṁ catummukhaṁ; I provided gifts thereTattha dānaṁ pavattesiṁ, for beasts, birds, men, and so forth.migapakkhinarādinaṁ.

Clothing and beds,food and drink to enjoy:I provided them without let,performing a great offering.

Acchādanañca sayanaṁ, annaṁ pānañca bhojanaṁ; Abbocchinnaṁ karitvāna, mahādānaṁ pavattayiṁ.

Suppose a servant is lookingto get a raise from their boss,they’d seek to fulfill their needsby body, speech, and mind.

Yathāpi sevako sāmiṁ, dhanahetumupāgato; Kāyena vācā manasā, ārādhanīyamesati.

Suppose a servant is lookingYathāpi sevako sāmiṁ, to get a raise from their boss,dhanahetumupāgato; they’d seek to fulfill their needsKāyena vācā manasā, by body, speech, and mind.ārādhanīyamesati.

In that way in every lifeI shall seek the wisdom born of awakening.Having pleased beings with gifts,I wish for the supreme awakening.”

Tathevāhaṁ sabbabhave, pariyesissāmi bodhijaṁ; Dānena satte tappetvā, icchāmi bodhimuttaman”ti.

In that way in every lifeTathevāhaṁ sabbabhave, I shall seek the wisdom born of awakening.pariyesissāmi bodhijaṁ; Having pleased beings with gifts,Dānena satte tappetvā, I wish for the supreme awakening.”icchāmi bodhimuttaman”ti.
