“Then again when I wasin the capital city of MithilāI was the great king named Nimi,astute and seeking the good.

“Punāparaṁ yadā homi, mithilāyaṁ puruttame; Nimi nāma mahārājā, paṇḍito kusalatthiko.

Tadāhaṁ māpayitvāna, catussālaṁ catummukhaṁ; Tattha dānaṁ pavattesiṁ, migapakkhinarādinaṁ.

Tadāhaṁ māpayitvāna,
four halls with four openings,
catussālaṁ catummukhaṁ;
I provided gifts there
Tattha dānaṁ pavattesiṁ,
for beasts, birds, men, and so forth.

Acchādanañca sayanaṁ, annaṁ pānañca bhojanaṁ; Abbocchinnaṁ karitvāna, mahādānaṁ pavattayiṁ.

annaṁ pānañca bhojanaṁ;
I provided them without let,
Abbocchinnaṁ karitvāna,
performing a great offering.

they’d seek to fulfill their needs

by body, speech, and mind.

Tathevāhaṁ sabbabhave, pariyesissāmi bodhijaṁ; Dānena satte tappetvā, icchāmi bodhimuttaman”ti.
