Just as it’s impossible to climb the upper floor without building the lower floors first, it’s impossible to end suffering without penetrating the four noble truths.
“Mendicants, suppose someone were to say:‘Without truly comprehending the noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, I will completely make an end of suffering.’That is not possible.
“Yo hi, bhikkhave, evaṁ vadeyya: *hi, bhikkhave → yo ca kho bhikkhave (sya-all, mr)‘ahaṁ dukkhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ yathābhūtaṁ anabhisamecca …pe… dukkhanirodhagāminiṁ paṭipadaṁ ariyasaccaṁ yathābhūtaṁ anabhisamecca sammā dukkhassantaṁ karissāmī’ti—netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati.
