Transmigration through births is finished,

I practiced as an ascetic,
Samaṇaṁ paṭipādesiṁ,
the renowned Upariṭṭha.

Then I was reborn in the Sakyan clan,where I was known as ‘Anuruddha’.Surrounded by song and dance,I was awakened by cymbals and gongs.

Somhi sakyakule jāto, anuruddhoti maṁ vidū; Upeto naccagītehi, sammatāḷappabodhano.

Then I was reborn in the Sakyan clan,
Somhi sakyakule jāto,
where I was known as ‘Anuruddha’.

Then I saw the Buddha,

the Teacher, fearing nothing from any quarter;
satthāraṁ akutobhayaṁ;
filling my mind with confidence in him,
Tasmiṁ cittaṁ pasādetvā,
I went forth to homelessness.

Seven times I was a king of menruling a kingdom,victorious in the four quarters,lord of the Black Plum Tree Land.Without rod or sword,I governed by principle.

Sattakkhattuṁ manussindo, ahaṁ rajjamakārayiṁ; Cāturanto vijitāvī, jambusaṇḍassa issaro; Adaṇḍena asatthena, dhammena anusāsayiṁ.

Seven times I was a king of men
Sattakkhattuṁ manussindo,
ruling a kingdom,
ahaṁ rajjamakārayiṁ;
victorious in the four quarters,
Cāturanto vijitāvī,
lord of the Black Plum Tree Land.
jambusaṇḍassa issaro;
Without rod or sword,
Adaṇḍena asatthena,
I governed by principle.
dhammena anusāsayiṁ.

I know the passing away and rebirth of beings,
sattānaṁ āgatiṁ gatiṁ;
their coming and going,
Itthabhāvaññathābhāvaṁ,
their lives in this state and that.

Steady in five-factored absorption,Cutūpapātaṁ jānāmi, I know the passing away and rebirth of beings,sattānaṁ āgatiṁ gatiṁ; their coming and going,Itthabhāvaññathābhāvaṁ, their lives in this state and that.jhāne pañcaṅgike ṭhito.

I’ve served the teacherand fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.The heavy burden is laid down,the leash to existence is eradicated.

Pariciṇṇo mayā satthā, … pe … bhavanetti samūhatā.

Vajjīnaṁ veḷuvagāme, ahaṁ jīvitasaṅkhayā; Heṭṭhato veḷugumbasmiṁ, nibbāyissaṁ anāsavo”ti.

In the Vajjian village of Veḷuva,

my life will come to an end.
