Ver en el glosario was staying in the land of the Sakyans, near Kapilavatthu in the Banyan Tree Monastery. Then Mahānāma the Sakyan went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:

Ver en el glosario, you’re considered to be a lay follower.”

“When a lay follower doesn’t kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, or consume intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor, they’re considered to be an ethical lay follower.”*This is an important distinction, which counters the “no true Scotsman” argument sometimes said of Buddhists. If someone has gone for refuge, they are a Buddhist, even if they are not keeping precepts or otherwise practicing. Refuge is a commitment to what one takes as the highest value, regardless of one’s personal achievements or failings.
