Anyone among menwho harms other creatures:that person will fallboth from this world and the next.

“Yodha koci manussesu, parapāṇāni hiṁsati; Asmā lokā paramhā ca, ubhayā dhaṁsate naro.

Anyone among men
“Yodha koci manussesu,
who harms other creatures:
parapāṇāni hiṁsati;
that person will fall
Asmā lokā paramhā ca,
both from this world and the next.
ubhayā dhaṁsate naro.

But someone with a mind of love,sympathetic for all creatures:a person like thatbrims with much merit.

You should all train <j>to learn well-spoken words,*I read sikkhetha as second person plural optative, and subhāsitassa (etc.) as dative (of purpose), although we would expect the āya form in this sense. The commentary glosses with third singular and accusative (subhāsitaṁ sikkheyya). However, this flattens this verse into the same third person voice as the previous two. Its distinctive diction, together with the fact that it exists as a separate verse at SN 2.1:2.1 (where, further, it appears to be a quotation), suggest its separate origin and purpose.to attend closely to ascetics,to sit alone in hidden places,and to calm the mind.

Subhāsitassa sikkhetha, samaṇūpāsanassa ca; *samaṇūpāsanassa → samaṇupāsanassa (sya1ed, sya2ed, pts1ed)Ekāsanassa ca raho, cittavūpasamassa cā”ti.
