Sāmā

Four or five timesI left my dwelling.I had failed to find peace of heart,or any control over my mind.Now it is the eighth nightsince craving was eradicated.

“Catukkhattuṁ pañcakkhattuṁ, vihārā upanikkhamiṁ; Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ, citte avasavattinī; Tassā me aṭṭhamī ratti, yato taṇhā samūhatā.

Four or five times“Catukkhattuṁ pañcakkhattuṁ, I left my dwelling.vihārā upanikkhamiṁ; I had failed to find peace of heart,Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ, or any control over my mind.citte avasavattinī; Now it is the eighth nightTassā me aṭṭhamī ratti, since craving was eradicated.yato taṇhā samūhatā.

Though subject to so many painful things,Bahūhi dukkhadhammehi, I have, through my love of diligence,appamādaratāya me; reached the ending of craving,Taṇhakkhayo anuppatto, and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.kataṁ buddhassa sāsanan”ti.
