My hair mown off, covered in mud,I used to wander wearing just one robe.I saw fault where there was none,and was blind to the actual fault.

“Lūnakesī paṅkadharī, ekasāṭī pure cariṁ; Avajje vajjamatinī, vajje cāvajjadassinī.

I used to wander wearing just one robe.

Leaving my day’s meditationon Vulture’s Peak Mountain,I saw the stainless BuddhaBuddhaEl nombre dado a quien redescubre por sí mismo el sendero liberador del Dhamma, tras un largo período de haber sido olvidado por el mundo. Según la tradición, una larga línea de Buddhas se extiende hasta el pasado distante. El Buddha más reciente nació como Siddhattha Gotama en la India alrededor del año 500 a.e.c. Divāvihārā nikkhamma,
on Vulture’s Peak Mountain,
gijjhakūṭamhi pabbate;
I saw the stainless Buddha
Addasaṁ virajaṁ buddhaṁ,
at the fore of the mendicant Saṅgha.

I bent my knee and bowed,and in his presence raised my cupped palms.“Come Bhaddā,” he said;*This echoes the very first ordinations, where the Buddha merely said, “Come monk” (Kd 1:6.32.3). The use of ehi for “come” is a sign of respect (Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa 1.1.4.12).that was my ordination.

Nihacca jāṇuṁ vanditvā, sammukhā añjaliṁ akaṁ; ‘Ehi bhadde’ti maṁ avaca, sā me āsūpasampadā.

I bent my knee and bowed,

Ciṇṇā aṅgā ca magadhā, vajjī kāsī ca kosalā; Anaṇā paṇṇāsa vassāni, raṭṭhapiṇḍaṁ abhuñjahaṁ.

“I’ve wandered among the Aṅgans and Magadhans,
Ciṇṇā aṅgā ca magadhā,
the Vajjis, Kāsis, and Kosalans.
vajjī kāsī ca kosalā;
I have eaten the almsfood of the nations
Anaṇā paṇṇāsa vassāni,
free of debt for fifty years.”
raṭṭhapiṇḍaṁ abhuñjahaṁ.
